How to Accessorize Your Wedding Dress

How to Accessorize Your Wedding Dress

After finding your perfect wedding dress, you’re not quite done putting together your bridal look—you still need to find the perfect accessories to complement your wedding dress without overpowering it, all while showing off your own personal style. To help inspire you with ideas for accessorizing, here are a few of our favorite ways to style your wedding dress.

Veils

While you don’t have to wear a veil, traditionally, most brides do. If you’re opting for a veil, the biggest thing to consider is your veil length in relation to your dress silhouette. For dresses with fuller skirts, like ball gowns and A-line wedding dresses, you’ll want to find a veil elbow length and shorter or floor length and longer. A fingertip or other mid-range length veil looks great from the front, but cuts off the flow of the skirt from the back. With a more fitted silhouette, like a fit and flare or mermaid, you’ll want to find a veil fingertip length and longer or shoulder length and shorter. This is because some shorter veils—like an elbow length—cut off mid way down the silhouette, disrupting the gorgeous curves your dress creates.

Hair Combs

Whether you opt for a veil or not, a hair comb is a fun accessory to consider for your wedding day. Depending on the look you want, you could find something floral-inspired and bohemian, or a piece with more sparkle and vintage flair. Tucking a comb near your veil can add gorgeous detail, although hair combs also look stunning on their own—the decision is up to you on whether you think adding a hair accessory seems like your style. We especially love hair combs with dresses that have elaborate necklines that are difficult to style with necklaces.

Jewelry

One of the most difficult decisions brides face accessory-wise is jewelry! There are endless options for how to style your dress with jewelry, but it all comes down to two things: how much sparkle you like, and your dress’s neckline. If your dress has a heavily embellished neckline, or has a higher cut like an illusion neckline, it’s probably best to stay away from necklaces. Instead, opt for a pair of drop earrings or a bracelet to add a hint of sparkle. Similarly, if your dress is simple, you can find a great statement necklace to compliment your look! Depending on how much sparkle you like, you can vary how bold your jewelry is, from a subtle look to a bolder statement.

Belts

An often overlooked accessory that we love is a belt. An easy way to add sparkle to simple dresses, a belt can be the perfect touch your dress needs. If you’re a bride who loves sparkle and surprised yourself by choosing a simple dress, a belt can be the perfect way to add a bit of glamour. They also bring attention to your waist, slimming you while elevating your look.
